How we choose our information
- We use trusted UK sources: the NHS, NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) and Diabetes UK, the UK's leading diabetes charity, whose guidance for people with diabetes is widely used across the NHS.
- We don't use commercial or non-UK guidance as a source of facts or numbers (UK glucose is reported in mmol/L, not the mg/dL used in the US).
- Where sources disagree, we use the more cautious figure and explain the difference on the page where it matters. NICE sets no single national blood sugar target for type 2 diabetes, so we show the ranges most UK services use and say so.
- We recheck the pages regularly. They are the current official pages at the date shown, which is when we last checked them.
